Azure Virtual Desktop Specialist - Senior Architect

For our client from Sweden, a leading supplier of intelligent home alarm products, we are looking for Azure Virtual Desktop Specialist. If you are passionate about VDI technologies and eager to contribute to a dynamic and innovative team, we would love to hear from you! From mid May till end of June - 2-3 days a week during this period. From August and till end of the year (2025) it would be a full time job implementing the new solution and operate it.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and architecture of secure, scalable, and high-performance Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments using Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Remote Desktop Services (RDS).
- Define best practices and establish standards for AVD deployment, configuration, and integration with enterprise IT systems.
- Provide strategic guidance on VDI modernization and optimization, aligning technical solutions with business objectives.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, network, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of AVD/RDS solutions into the wider IT landscape.
- Oversee the implementation of security and compliance controls within the virtual desktop ecosystem.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across the AVD and RDS landscape, acting as an escalation point for engineering teams.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance performance, scalability, and user experience across the VDI platform.
- Mentor and support team members, sharing knowledge and fostering best practices in virtual desktop architecture.
- Stay current with emerging trends in virtualization and cloud-native desktop solutions, and proactively recommend improvements.
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive hands-on experience architecting, designing, and managing Microsoft AVD and RDS environments.
- Deep understanding of virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware) and their role within hybrid cloud environments.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and security practices.
- Advanced proficiency in scripting and automation, particularly with PowerShell; knowledge of Python is a plus.
- Proven ability to deliver robust, secure, and cost-effective VDI solutions within large-scale or enterprise-level environments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication skills, capable of articulating complex solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
- Experience with broader IT infrastructure components, including storage, firewalls, and identity management.
- Familiarity with DevOps concepts, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- Cloud expertise, particularly with Microsoft Azure; knowledge of AWS is a plus
Relevant certifications such as: - Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- Fluent in English, with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Adaptable and able to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
- Strong sense of ownership, with the ability to manage priorities independently and collaboratively
